It's the squirrel the start-animal of this project! Every week, we'll post informations about different animal, to know the life and habits of the other living oraganisms in our wonderful planet.
Like other rodents, squirrels have got four front teeth which never stop growing so they don't wear down from the constant gnawing. There are two types of squirrel: tree squirrels, grownd sqirrels and flying squirrels.
The former are the types commonly recognized. Though they are terrific climbers, tree squirrels come to the grownd in search of nuts, acorns, berries and flowers. Ground squirrels eat nuts, leaves, roots, seeds and other plants. They also prey other little animals, such as bugs caterpillars. This small mamals are often threatened by predators, having moreover few defence system. Ground squirrels live in burrow or tunnel system, where they hibernate during winter. Flying squirrel are the third adaptable type of squirrel. The can't fly, but extend their arms and legs by coasting through the air from one tree to another. Flying squirrels live in nests or tree holes.
This cute rodent was photographed in New jersey, USA, during a snowstorm. I think it wasn't having a good time, was it?
