During a archaeological excavation in Bulgaria, many graves have been unearthed. In the graves laid skeletrons.
These latter was very particular: each skeletron have been stabbed in the chest by using an iron knight, which was found next to body. In addition, skulls was toothless.
that's not a new death ritual, but a method to prevent the rebirth of the died and avoid their trasformation in vampire. This belief was very spred in East Europe for hundreds of years.
