The blue crab is so named because of its particular sapphire-tinted claws.

Overfishing and deterioration of its habitat has triggered a decrease of the population. In fact, blue crabs are extremely sensible to environmental changes, and many species have suffered a strong decline.

This one can bring about to many troubles to habitat, in which blu crabs play a key role in managing the population of the animal they prey.

Blue crabs are omnivore invertebrate and they feed of anything they find in environment, including mussels, snails, fish, plants and also carrions and smaller blue crabs!

They are also excellent swimmer, with special adapted hind appendages shaped like paddles. You can see this crab in brackish coastal lagoons and estuaries from Nova Scotia and through the Gulf of Mexico.
